I love to paint. When I’m
painting, I don’t feel
handicapped.
Inspired by the Masters from the Renaissance to the Modern Era,
Michael Platzer "lives, breathes and sleeps art." Yet Platzer himself
serves as inspiration for a new generation of artists since he paints in
a rather unorthodox way, by holding the brush in his mouth!
When a 1975 diving accident left Michael a quadriplegic, an artist
friend taught him the basics of paintings, and with a little ingenuity
and determination, Platzer was on his way. After experimenting with
different techniques, he settled on his current method, and went on
to receive instruction at Penn State University to refine his art.
2009
AMFPA - Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists worldwide
accepted Michael into their prestigious group and he dedicates most
of his work to them.
Michael’s enthusiasm for painting has superceded any obstacles he
has encountered, and a heartfelt affection for his subjects is evident
in all his paintings. Accomplished in both oil and watercolor, Platzer
renders a wide range of themes from landscapes and lighthouses to
woodpeckers and character studies. And each of his paintings
embodies a spiritual element which underscores the triumphs of the
artist.
